Eurico Silva, the owner, proudly told us the history of the project, which he named as a tribute to his mother, and in the likeness of his own image, as an entrepreneur and ambitious man. Trained architect, he studied arts and traveled the world, bringing back with him a suitcase of inspiration and the desire to create something new, unique and authentic - O Filho da Mãe.

The place that greets us is small, with only 60 square meters, but it’s the right one to create the intimate, familiar and welcoming environment that’s intended. Everything is thought to detail, from decoration to lighting, not to mention the tableware- made exclusively by a brand from Barcelos, being constantly updated.

More than a restaurant, O Filho da Mãe is a place for sharing, with a mix of concepts and a different gastronomic offer. The kitchen responsibility lies with Venezuelan chef Guillermo Rumbos, who creates a seasonal menu, where the ingredients are always fresh. Thus, the guarantee of excellence is safeguarded and the attention in the selection and preparation of each dish is visible. The cuisine is transversal, you can choose a dish as Portuguese as Peixinhos da Horta, but you’ll feel in the menu the strong presence of the inspiration from other cuisines, such as those of Latin America and Spain.

The cellar has more than 40 references, and is constantly being updated. The aim is the selection and demand of non-commercial wines, and the import of wines from South America. The project is ambitious, but its team stands out in terms of quality, dedication and passion, that already turned this recent project into a reference in the city, for those looking for a gastronomic journey.

The intention is not to sell food, but to provide experiences, and whoever visits O Filho da Mãe has the assurance that they’ll leave satisfied, comforted and surprised. We tried Entrecôte with rice from pine nuts, rich in flavor and quality, and we left with a desire to return!
