História à mesa

Original recipes, homemade confection

At História à Mesa, recipes are made in an artisanal way and the result are Braga’s traditional and conventual sweets that leave no one indifferent. This is the ideal place for long snacks and long conversations.

Located at number 6 Raio Street, this two floor cafe could go unnoticed by those more distracted, but the sweet aroma captivates whoever walks down the street towards the Senhora-a-Branca garden and it’s inevitable: we must go in and discover a little bit more of what was made in the Minho region monasteries and convents between the 16th and the 19th centuries.

Marzipans, citron pastries, “toucinho do céu” (a traditional Portuguese dessert), “celestes” (almond based cakes), Abade de Priscos pudding... There is a little bit of everything and one guarantee: these sweets are made with huge passion and the greatest of care, so as to emulate that beautiful feeling of comfort – it's like having a snack at Grandma's house – and their Easter and Christmas tables are absolutely charming, thanks to the special orders that can be placed during these seasons of the year.

História à Mesa cultivates the preservation of tradition and its careful decor, whose highlight immediately goes to the blue and white tiles that combine perfectly with the traditional sweets that tell the city of Braga’s culinary history. What’s not to like?

Cool Tip: Discover Braga through flavor and order the 6 conventual sweets tasting menu, served with a lemon verbena or lemongrass infusion.
