Tesouro - Museu da Sé
When you visit the city’s most famous church, let yourself be carried away by curiosity and discover over 1500 years of history in the museum housed in a former chapter house (Casa do Cabido). Braga Cathedral’s Treasure Museum brings together a collection of priceless pieces that represent significant events in the Cathedral’s history and assumes itself as a Sacred Art Museum with a complete and rich archive that leaves no one indifferent.
Known as "Roots of Eternity: Jesus Christ – A Church", the permanent exhibition at Braga Cathedral’s Treasure Museum, one of the most visited museums in the city by tourists and locals, contemplates a clear narrative about the life of Jesus Christ, thematic nuclei related to the Church’s history in Braga and one nucleus dedicated to jewelry and vestments.
Objects of great value can be found in one of the Treasure Museum’s rooms and the truth be told: it doesn’t have this name for any old reason. In this museum you can enjoy, for example, the cross that Pedro Álvares Cabral took to Brazil and that was used in the first mass celebrated there, along with Archbishop Rodrigo de Moura Teles’ liturgical shoes, as well as many other relics.
Cool Tip: Buy the combined ticket, it’s more affordable. In addition to the Museum, be sure to visit the Cathedral and chapels surrounding it.
